Use overnight on clean, dry body skin before moisturizer. Apply a thin layer to the desired treatment area (neck, chest, arms, legs, butt, hips, stomach, etc.), avoiding sensitive or broken skin.
To reduce the chance of irritation, apply once a week to start and gradually increase to a maximum of 4 nights per week, if skin can tolerate it. Diligently protect skin from sun exposure while using any retinoids and AHA’s in your routine, as skin will be more sensitive—using a sunscreen rated SPF 30 or higher is highly recommended.
Conducting a patch test before introducing new products into your routine is highly encouraged. Apply serum onto a clean, quarter-sized area of body skin and wait 24-48 hours to see that no irritation occurs, before applying to the rest of the body normally.
To reduce the chance of irritation, use the “sandwich method.” Apply body moisturizer first and once absorbed, follow up with Software Update, and then seal that in with another layer of moisturizer. This buffers the direct contact of retinol with skin, allowing it to slowly sink in, and helps manage the drying side effects of retinol.

I really liked Software Update! I really liked Software Update! I found that it definitely made my skin softer and helped with fine lines. I used it mostly on my upper chest/neck. I saw a little less improvement on my neck, but I feel like my lines are a bit more prominent there, and it still made my skin feel soft. I’d actually love to get another bottle for my chest thru the fall/winter and see how it does when I’m not in the sun as much as I was mostly using it in summer months. I really like that...this is a creamy serum that is fast absorbing. I really like that it’s creamy and that it absorbs quickly. It felt nice on my skin. Overall I liked that it made my skin a little more bright and vibrant. It did nothing for some freckles and/or other areas of discoloration. One issue that I didn’t like is that I needed to apply a moisturizer after. As I do gua sha on my abdomen and legs after showering I also had to apply an oil. That’s three steps. My face? Yes, I use a few products but my body? I want one product. A moisturizer or an oil. Also, I couldn’t tell when I was running out until I had no more product. It would be easier to tell if it was in a clear bottle. One more thing: it’s night time use. Most people shower in the morning to start their day, then they apply a moisturizer. To apply the retinol serum, they would have to shower again to remove the moisturizer so that they can apply the retinol serum to clean dry skin, then moisture again. The consistency of the serum is thin and silky and very easy to spread. In the evening, I applied sparingly to my arms, tops of thighs and belly. I noticed no odor at all.
